Running: agree on the pace
Share a rough distance, comfortable pace and whether you want a conversation-friendly run or a harder training session. Pick a clear public meeting point and discuss what happens if someone needs to slow down.
Make your first invitation easy to answer
Include the sport, your experience, the area and two possible times. For example: “I’m getting back into tennis and looking for a relaxed hit near Carlton. Would Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon suit?” Being specific helps both people decide whether the session fits.
Keep the first meeting simple
Meet at a public sports venue or busy public place. Check opening hours and booking conditions with the venue, share your plans with someone you trust, and keep control of how much personal information you share. If the plan or interaction feels uncomfortable, you can decline.
